Gorazd Štumberger\, comentor: asist. dr. Primož Sukič\n\n\n\n\nAwards of prof. dr. Vratislav Bedjanic\nThe awards for extraordinary academic works in fileds of automation and electrical power engineering are beeing granted since 1970. In nearly five decades the Awards has gained its recognition linked to institutions such as Iskra\, University of Ljubljana and University of Maribor. In year 2009 the sponsorship of the Awards was taken over by National Comitee CIGRE-CIRED Slovenia in cooperation with both Electircal Engineering Faculties. \nAbout prof. Vratislav Bedjanic\nDuring technical experts these awards represent a memorial to prof. Vratislav Bedjanič – the founder and first CEO of Iskra’s Tel factory in Ljubljana. Prof. Bedjanič has received his bachelor degree in 1929 from Technical faculty of Ljubljana and was nominated for assistant profesor in 1940 at University of Ljubljana. As a leading expert he has cooperated at foundation and development of slovenian electrical industry in 1945. These includes also companies such as: Iskra Kranj\, Elma Črnuče and Elektrokovina Maribor. Based on industry needs and his own knowledge about importance of power system automation equipment manufacturing control he has personally lead the foundation of TELA (Electrical machines factory) in Ljubljana. Since its foundation in 29th June 1949 he was CEO and CTO of TELA for entire decade until his premature death in 15th December 1959. As a great slovenian expert in his field of work\, a statue of his figure was build and revealed in his honor on 15th December 1999 (40-years from his death) at 29th Awards event. \nThe importance and prestige on the Award\nWith the purpose of conserving the figure of university profesor and successful businessman\, which also encouraged his students to research the field of automatization\, company Iskra has founded the Award granting and the fund for the Award on the proposal of one of the Bedjanič’s close co-workers\, prof. dr. Anton Ogorelc in 1970. During the years the Award’s identity was not developed only by awarded students\, but also by the Award comitee and its president (up to 2012) prof. dr. Anton Ogorelec. The comitee has kept its thight and selective criterias with the goal that all the awarded works do show pratical usage in today’s electircal power industry. From the year 2013 to 2019 the committee was run by the president dr. Zvonko Toroš. So far the committee has given 300 awards (up to y. 2020) from that 168 awards went to students from University of Ljubljana\, 68 awards went to students from University of Maribor and 64 awards went to students from other universities. The awards were given to 58 PhD\, 90 master of science\, 13 master and 139 bachelor nominees (bologna programme). Most of the award winners are today’s respected researchers\, university professors\, bussinessmen or experts with international reputation in european and global expert societies. These kind of reputation are a guarantees\, which open new perspective careers to award winners\, especially in time of global changes where the key advantage is fast solution devlopment and global market appearance. \nGallery

SUMMARY:CIGRE simposium Aalborg\, Denmark 2019
DESCRIPTION:SYMPOSIUM THEME\nThe aim of the 2019 CIGRE International Symposium is to provide a forum for recent research results and system operations experience related to the rapid transformation and challenges imposed on networks and markets by increased amounts of renewables in the energy mix.\nPerhaps exemplified more than anywhere\, Northern Europe is about to increase its already large share of wind power with further offshore plants and offshore interconnectors.\nConcurrent wider changes to energy generation and consumption patterns\, and challenges to obtain right-of-way for new transmission lines\, drive a need to rethink transmission and its coordination with distribution networks. As an example\, over 50% of Denmark’s electrical energy generation is connected at distribution-level\, where the roll-out of electric vehicle charging and electric heating will introduce very large power balancing challenges.\nThe objective of the symposium is to address recent technical advances and policy that allow transmission and distribution networks to enter their next era\, in particular those related to offshore generation\, transmission and distribution.\nThe preferential topics reflect the above\, and beyond\, across technology\, planning\, operations and markets. The symposium is intended to bring these important topics to discussion during the technical sessions. \n  \nSYMPOSIUM VENUE\nAalborg has a rich and long history\, going back to the Vikings. Successful heavy industries have gradually transitioned into an environment of technology-rich enterprises\, a feat not least due to the presence of Aalborg University\, organizer of the symposium. Aalborg Congress & Culture Centre(uk.akkc.dk) will host all technical sessions\, and is located centrally\, only 6 km from Aalborg airport. \n  \nPROGRAMME\n\nThe technical programme sessions opens with keynotes and welcome reception on Tuesday afternoon 4th June\, followed by two full days Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th June. The 32 sessions will run in four parallel tracks. Friday 7th June will offer a visit by boat to the Anholt 400 MW offshore wind farm. A trip to Skagen – one of the loveliest quaint coastal towns in Denmark– will be organized for accompanying persons.\nIndividual Study Committee meetings and Working Group meetings will take place from Sunday 2nd to Tuesday 4th June.\nInformation on accompanying persons and social programme available on CigreAalborg2019.dk \n  \nPREFERENTIAL SUBJECTS\nThe principal topics for the symposium are: \n\nOffshore wind power network connection technologies and equipment: submarine and underground cables; HVAC and HVDC connections; wind farm power quality\, transient and harmonic stability.\nOperation and system stability of weak networks with wind penetration\, both DC and AC infeeds.\n(Offshore) HVDC technical and economic system perspectives\, including multi-terminal DC networks\, DC/AC hybrid transmission.\nSubmarine cable technology and lifecycle.\nUpgrades and restructuring of onshore networks with mixed usage of HVAC\, HVDC\, overhead lines\, underground and submarine cables.\nChanges and advances to split between roles and functionalities of distribution and transmission networks. Advances in exchange of data and services between DSO and TSO.\nEco-design and environmental concerns of offshore and onshore transmission solutions\, including asset management and public acceptance.\n\nPostgraduate research student participation is encouraged. The symposium hosts a student poster session with best paper awards. As per the instructions\, please indicate young authors where appropriate. \nPAPER PUBLICATION\nPapers will be available to download one month in advance of the symposium for registered participants – see on the symposium website. One month after the symposium\, papers can be purchased on CIGRE online library. CIGRE Science & Engineering will publish the 5 best papers selected from the symposium. The Technical Committee will produce a summary report of the symposium for publication in Electra. \nREGISTRATION\nRegistration will be opened on 1st September 2018. Together with preliminary programme information\, synopsis and paper templates will be available on:\nCigreAalborg2019.dk \nCOMMITTEES\nThe Symposium Technical Committee is composed of the chairmen of the following study committees: \n\nSC C4 System Technical Performance (lead)\nSC B1 Insulated Cables\nSC B2 Overhead lines\nSC B4 HVDC and Power Electronics\nSC C1 System Development and Economics\nSC C2 System Operation and Control\nSC C3 System Environmental performance\nSC C6 Distribution Systems and Dispersed Generation\n\nThe Organizing Committee is chaired by the chairman of the Danish National Committee Jørgen S. Christensen.\nThe Technical Committee is chaired by Zia Emin\, chairman of SC C4.\nThe Local Committee is chaired by Claus Leth Bak. \nSUBMISSION OF SYNOPSES\nParticipants wishing to present and publish papers should submit synopses by following instructions on CigreAalborg2019.dk\, where the synopses and paper templates are also available. All synopses\, papers\, and presentations must be in English. Please note authors should be available to present at the symposium. \nDEADLINES\n\n\n\nReceipt of synopsis\n28 September 2018\n\n\nNotification of acceptance\n19 October 2018\n\n\nReceipt of full paper\n18 January 2019\n\n\nNotification of final acceptance\n12 April 2019

Vratislav Bedjanič\n  \nThe awards for extraordinary academic works in fileds of automation and electrical power engineering are beeing granted since 1970. Vratislav Bedjanič\nDuring technical experts these awards represent a memorial to prof. From the year 2013 the comitee is run by the president dr. Zvonko Toroš. So far the comitee has given 291 awards (up to y. 2017) from that 165 awards went to students from University of Ljubljana\, 62 awards went to students from University of Maribor and 64 awards went to students from other universities. SUMMARY:EXPERT CONSULTATION "CYBER SECURITY IN ELECTRIC POWER ENGINEERING"
DESCRIPTION:The workshop “Cybersecurity in Electric Power Utilities” was held on October 17th in Tehnološki park\, Ljubljana. \nNC CIGRE Slovenia has organized the workshop with selected topics and presentations on Cybersecurity issues in Electric Power Utilities (EPU). Cybersecurity became one of the crucial segments of modern ICT networks and systems in EPU’s\, with the goal to protect critical assets and services in EPU’s from the growing cybersecurity threats and risks. A number of examples in recent years show the exposure of the EPUs towards cybersecurity issues. On the other side the development of technology\, services and processes give a lot of possibilities to develop cybersecurity strategies in EPUs. The goal of the initiative from Slovenian NC CIGRE is to raise awareness to Cybersecurity topics among different expert public\, not only ICT\, as the topic became relevant for different departments inside EPUs\, including the top management. \nThe structure of the workshop was divided into three sections and the round table held at the end of the workshop. Each section contained three presentations. After the introductory speech\, held by Mr. Marko Hrast\, chairman of the Slovenian NC CIGRE the following presentations were carried out by following presenters: \n1. A look at cyber security in electricity from the perspective of government institutions; Gorazd Božič\, SI-CERT \n2. Model for evaluation of cybersecurity; dr. Janez Stergar\, The Energy Agency in the Slovenian energy market \n3. Cyber Security in Power Systems in the CIGRE WG Working Group D2.46 (Cybersecurity: future threats and impact on Electric Power Utility organizations and operations); Janko Kersnik\, Smart Com \n4. Concepts of providing cyber security in OT systems; Andrej Matko\, ELES \n5. Security challenges in IT/OT convergence; dr. Alenka Kolar\, Elektro Ljubljana \n6. Access to the IT resources using Role-based access control (RBAC) and identity management; Janez Bartol and Andrej Souvent\, Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute \n7. Specifics of cyber security in energy companies; dr. Ciril Kafol – Informatika d.d.\, Marko Zavadlav – UnistarPro\, Uroš Majcen – S&T Slovenia \n8. Nokia’s view on cyber security in power utilities; Dominique Verhulst\, Nokia \n9. The Security Operations Center – lessons learned; Metod Platiše\, Telekom Slovenije \nThe workshop summaries presented by Peter Ceferin\, chairman of Slovenian CIGRE D2 SC\, are the following: \n1. The field of cyber security has become an inseparable part or a segment that needs to be taken into account in the development of the information and communication infrastructure in the electric power utilities with the introduction of new technologies\, solutions and services based on ICT. \n2. Examples in recent years\, analyzes of the electric power segment exposure to cybersecurity risks and the development of technology require a systematic approach in the electricity sector\, taking into account the regulatory frameworks\, guidelines they provide and standards by the regulatory and standardization bodies. \n3. The legislation on cyber security (the Law on Information Security) also affects the area that relates to the EPUs\, so it will be necessary in the future to follow and introduce the necessary solutions and measures that will follow the defined requirements. \n4. For the successful further development of information security in EPUs\, it is not enough only technological progress\, but also awareness of all stakeholders on the need for deployment and the implementation of cyber security measures in both IT and OT environments. The introduction of new organizational approaches is needed and introductory of the rules to ensure protection of critical electrical energy infrastructure against cybersecurity risks and threats. \n5. The Slovenian electricity system is interconnected at the Slovenian national level and integrated into the regional and European electricity network. We must be aware that even potential incursions into smaller systems\, such as the Slovene in the future\, can lead to incidents of wider dimensions\, so cooperation in this environment will also be of crucial importance. \n6. The security operational centers (SOC) are essential for the systematic management of information security\, and it is necessary to enable the further development of these mechanisms and structures to be introduced into implementations inside EPUS. \n7. Particular attention in the future must be directed towards the development of professional personnel in the field of cyber security\, for this purpose efforts should be made in EPUS\, at both Slovenian universities and industry. \n8. The role of the Slovenian NC CIGRE is to promote professional discussion\, active cooperation within the international CIGRE\, and transfer knowledge and orientations to the Slovenian electricity environment. We encourage ICT and cyber security experts to cooperate with new ideas and approaches that would contribute to development and improvement in this field. The next major event will be the 14th conference of Slovenian CIGRE-CIRED Association\, May 2019 in Laško. The field of cybersecurity is a priority topic in D2 SC\, and authors of articles from this area are invited to participate. \n  \nDetailed conclusions were also publiched in ELECTRA newsletter from CIGRE Paris.  \n  \nINVITATION \nto the Expert Consultation on \n“Cyber Security in Electric Power Engineering” \nOctober 17th 2018 \n8:30 am – 16:00 pm \nTehnoloski park 19\, building B\, ground floor\, lecture room \nThe security of information systems and related elements in the energy sector is becoming an increasingly important topic every day. SUMMARY:CIRED WORKSHOP\, LJUBLJANA\, SLOVENIA
DESCRIPTION:7th- 8th JUNE 2018\, LJUBLJANA\, SLOVENIA\n\nMicrogrids and local energy communities can have a tremendous impact on distribution system development\, and may offer a number of important advantages for the end-users and for the utilities. Customers\, producers and those who do both have the potential to reduce energy costs\, improve service continuity and bidding system services and flexibility. Distribution system operators may reduce or postpone investments\, increase hosting capacity and improve quality of services. A proper regulatory framework has to be designed to allow them to bring these expected benefits to the various stakeholders\, while maintaining an effective market operation\, making sure there is no negative impact on the overall cost base and avoiding unfair cross-subsidisation. \n\n\nThis is the reason why this CIRED workshop focuses on microgrids\, i.e. electricity distribution systems containing loads and distributed energy resources (such as distributed generators\, storage devices\, or controllable loads)\, that can be operated in a controlled\, coordinated way\, whether they are:\n\nIsolated microgrids\, which only function in an island mode\,\n\nEmbedded microgrids\, which can be controlled either while connected to the main power network or while islanded\,\n\nLocal energy communities\, which comprise consumers cooperating for the satisfaction of their energy needs using local production sources\, and which are not designed to operate in an island mode.\n\n\nWORKSHOP THEMES \n\n\nBusiness models\, roles\, responsibilities and regulatory aspects\n\nTheme 1 addresses topics related to the overall regulatory\, business and organisational frameworks for microgrid implementation and operation\, focusing mainly on the roles of the microgrid operators and DSOs in making microgrids an integrated part of the electricity distribution system of the future. \n  \n\nArchitecture and system development\n\nIn the domain of microgrids and local energy communities\, robust architectures are necessary in order to foster system development\, as well as suitable models to compare development options. These are issues addressed in Theme 2. \n\nNetwork integration\, control concepts and operations\n\nTheme 3 invites authors to present their contributions related to technical microgrid\nintegration methods and solutions\, as well as field trial results\, tests and standards.\n\nKEY DATES \n  \n\n15 DECEMBER 2017 › DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS\n29 January 2018 › Notification of authors\n23 March 2018 › Full papers to be uploaded\n\nHow to submit your paper \n\n\nProspective authors are invited to submit an abstract of 2 A4 pages (including diagrams and illustrations) by 15 December 2017 directly via the Workshop website. All submissions will be peer reviewed by an international panel and successful authors will be invited to submit a full paper of 4 A4 pages by 23 March 2018.\n\nIt is a condition of acceptance that all papers must have at least one author registered for the Workshop.\n\nFor full details and to submit your abstract online\, please visit\nwww.cired2018-workshop.org\n\nWORKSHOP ORGANISERS\nMichèle Delville m.delville@aim-association.org\nCéline Dizier c.dizier@aim-association.org\nwww.debie.com
